Dottiesdo SFX Unpainted Silicone Whoville Inspired Nose Prosthetic Review

Hi lovelies,

If you follow me on socials, you’ll know I’ve been dabbling in prosthetics to help elevate looks. Unfortunately, this creation is a touch above my current skill set so I got to buy one from an amazing artist.

The Dottiesdo SFX unpainted silicone whoville nose prosthetic is available to purchase from their Etsy store (see here) as well as from MUD FX (here). This is a handmade encapsulated silicone prosthetic for the nose that retails for £16.99.You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £50 with MudFX but I’m not sure of shipping prices through Etsy. I ordered through MudFX and it arrived within a couple of days.

The packaging did surprise me a little bit but it works perfectly and there was no damage to the prosthetic when it arrived. There was some foiled tucked inside the prosthetic to stop it getting flattened too. Application instructions can be found on the back of the card that the prosthetic is stapled to. Although it was a little tricky to get the staples out, I managed to do so without damaging the prosthetic.

According to the product description, this is a hand sculpted and cast encapsulated silicone whoville nose prosthetic. The nose is available in three shades (pale, tan and dark) and are great for halloween and cosplay character makeup. The silicone makes them super flexible, lightweight and less prone to allergies than a latex prosthetics. The best thing about encapsulated prosthetics are the edges. They are really thin and can be blended into the skin easily with some acetone. The nose can be painted with regular makeup as well as water and alcohol activated paints.

For the most part, I love this prosthetic piece. It’s very lightweight and is a decent size that should be suitable for most people. It was a bit tricky to apply but that’s hardly surprising for something that goes over the nose. It was a little big for my face with the top edge getting close to the eyes but one size fits all is usually too big for me so no complaints. It’s also quite comfortable to wear…ok so you can’t breath out of your nose at all but it proves that you can get a good seal on the edges. It’s easy to paint too. I used a mix of water based paint and eyeshadow and they worked great.

The only major issue with this prosthetic is that the bottom edge was a little too thick which made it impossible to blend. I actually think the silicone went too low during the during the casting process. As I know how awkward these types of prosthetics are to create, I’m not too fussed about it. At the end of the day, it’s a handmade prosthetic that is cast blindly so it’s not always perfect. At least it was the bottom edge. The rest of the edges were fine and pretty easy to melt into the skin.

Overall, I am so glad that I bought this prosthetic for my christmas makeup series. It really did take it to the next level even with my dodgy application skills. The prosthetic is reasonably priced and high quality, full of detail and made to fit over the nose. It’s relatively easy to apply and quite comfortable to wear despite removing the ability to breath through your nose.
