Hi lovelies,
Sorry for the random week off. I’ve had a lot to sort out recently. So shortly after new year, I decided I needed new skincare. It wasn’t a resolution more of a decision….and I wanted to try some Nimya specifically.

The Nimya by Nikkie Tutorials Where it All Starts Cream is available to purchase from the company website (see here) as well as from Beauty Bay (here). It retails for £26 and you get 45ml of product. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders £50 from Nimya and on orders over £25 with Beauty Bay. I ordered through Beauty Bay and arrived within a few days of ordering.

The packaging is actually stunning; well made and heavy. The outer box contains all product information including the ingredients and directions of use in multiple languages. There are some gorgeous photos of the stunning queen herself on the packaging too but in a more discreet fashion than other brands. The jar definitely has a luxury feel about it and the lid screws tightly into place. There’s also an additional cover inside to further protect your product and I love how this is inlaid slightly so that it cannot just slide off.

According to the online description, this cream is a moisturiser/primer hybrid. It can be used alone to give you a luminous glow to the skin or under makeup to help it last a little bit longer. It is also cruelty free but it does not say vegan anywhere.

Ok I’m completely torn about this product. Parts I love, parts I really don’t love. It has a coconut scent that I don’t mind as it dissipates quickly upon application but I’m not sure it’s natural as the ingredients list parfum. I J S… For some reason it looks a little grainy in the pot but it feels smooth and not greasy. The cream itself has quite a thick consistency but is easy to apply though it does take a minute or two to rub into the skin. A little goes a long way with this so you don’t need to use much. Also when stored in a fridge, this has a wonderful cooling effect on the skin.

Sounds amazing so far right…well this is where it goes downhill. On the face, the cream initially feels heavy and unbreathable on the skin. Once absorbed into the skin, it does feel lighter though it does leave a layer of tackiness behind that I’m not the most fond of. However that’s kind the point of a primer to hold makeup onto the skin so I can’t complain too much there. For me, personally, this contains far too much glitter to wear alone as a day moisturiser. Like, I want to glow, not sparkle like an extra in twilight which is very much how I feel when wearing it. It’s a shame as it did leave my skin feeling amazing once that tackiness had gone.

Under most foundations, that sparkle is barely noticeable thank god but the cream presents a whole new issue here. I cannot get it to work with some foundations. Under some, this is fabulous-keeps the makeup in place longer and stops in breaking down-but under some, no no no. The foundation can look patchy, have texture or even start to separate. It’s not always the same issue though. Different foundations seem to present different issues. I think this is down to ingredients as this is a water based cream so be sure to check compatibility before buying.

Overall, I’m kind of feeling a bit meh about the Nimya by Nikkie Tutorials Where it all Starts Cream. Maybe I expected too much, I’m not sure but Nikkie knows her industry so its slightly disappointing. I have issues with it for both its main selling points. If it wasn’t for the glitter I would love this for a daily moisturiser. When it worked under foundation, it made my makeup look amazing and last longer but when it doesn’t work it’s really bad. It’s a little too hit and miss for me.
