Hi lovelies,
So I basically bought this one for nostalgic reasons having lived as one of those teenagers of the era.

This Y2K Baby Flip Phone palette is available to purchase from the Makeup Revolution website (see here) as well as from Beauty Bay (here), Superdrug (here) and Look Fantastic (here). This retails for £7.99 at full price but there is currently a sale on for most of these retailers. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £30 with Revolution Beauty and on orders over £25 with Beauty Bay, Superdrug and Look Fantastic.

The packaging is pretty basic although massively reflects the aesthetic of the time. There’s an outer plastic sleeve to protect the palette but it contains no product information. All information including the ingredients can be found on the back of the palette though. Designed to look like a flip phone, the lid opens on a hinge and has a pretty tight clasp holding it closed. The phone design continues on the inside with a mirror for the screen and the pans have button details.

This is a 9 pan palette featuring 4 mattes and 5 shimmers representing the times. There’s a pop of colour along with some pastels and a fair few shimmers. I have to admit that I’m not overly inspired by the colour palette and it isn’t very cohesive as a whole. Thankfully the palette is cruelty free and vegan.

When doing the swatches, the shadows were interesting. The mattes are all super soft and the two pinks have some pigment in there. Those bottom two though, bloody hell, it was like trying to get blood from a stone. I think those pictures say everything because I promise you I used many layers to produce practically nothing. The shimmers feel soft and buttery, some are almost creamy but all produced a decent swatch. They are pressed quite lightly so take care not to press them too hard.

On the eye, the shadows with some pigment were pretty good. They did need a couple of layers to build up the pigment but they got there without too much fuss. They didn’t become patchy either and were easy to blend. Those 2 bottom mattes didn’t produce anything better on the eye than in the swatch unfortunately. However, the shimmers were pretty good. Some are brighter with more reflects but all were fairly easy to apply. The purple did take an extra layer though.
Other than the two, kind of pointless shades, there were few issues with this palette. There was no staining to the skin from the red based shades and the shimmers lasted a while before they started to crease. There was no kickback in the pack for any of the shades but the shimmers did produce a small amount of fallout under the eye.

Overall, it’s a bit of a mixed bag from the Makeup Revolution Y2K Baby Flip Phone Review however I don’t think I was expecting much too begin with so I suppose it’s a positive. Bought for nostalgic reason over the packaging and it does not disappoint in that regard. The shades are also perfect for the era but some are more pigmented than others. Those with pigment blend easily and the shimmers are cute.
