Beauty Bay Smoky 42 Colour Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

I’ve been looking for the most perfect grey based palette since forever and it’s been a struggle to find what I was looking for. The only thing to really come close before now was the disaster called the Cremated palette by the pale goblin. Let’s hope this is better.

The Smoky 42 colour palette is available to purchase from the Beauty Bay website (see here). It retails for £25 but there are also 9 and 16 pan palettes available. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £25 and your order will be with you in a few days.

The packaging is very on brand for Beauty Bay. There’s a black outer box with a matte finish and a design in black satin. All product information can be found on the box including the ingredients. There’s plenty of bubble wrap inside the box to protect the palette during transit which I love. As always the palette is coloured to match the colour story inside. There’s a magnet to hold the lid of the palette closed and a huge mirror on the inside.

This is a 42 pan palette containing 25 mattes and 17 shimmers. This is a completely cool toned palette featuring shades that are mostly grey with some touches of white and brown. I have to admit, I am completely in love with this colour story. It looks so cohesive. The pans are a good size and will fit most brushes.

When doing the swatches, the shadows felt really soft. One or two of the shadows needed a couple of layers to produce an even swatch but they were mostly pretty good. There is so much colour variation between the shades too which is one thing a certain other grey palette didn’t have…The shimmers are absolutely gorgeous. Some were pressed harder than others but still delivered decent pigment.

On the eyes, the shadows perform well. The shadows are highly pigmented and are fairly easy to blend. Some of the darker shades needed a bit more time and patience to blend but they were still pretty easy. Although some intensity is lost during blending, they can be built up without any patchiness. The colours keep their subtle differences too. The shimmers apply better with your finger than a brush but they look stunning on the lid. The colours compliment the mattes perfectly and can blended together easily too.

I’ve not really had any issues with this palette aside from the usual small unavoidable things. Out of all the Beauty Bay palettes, these shimmers last the longest before they start to crease and then it’s more minimal than the others. There is some kickback in the pan for the majority of shades but only the shimmers created fallout under the eye. Not going to lie those shimmer particles go everywhere especially during removal.

Overall, I am pretty impressed with the Beauty Bay Smoky palette. The colour palette as a whole is so gorgeous and cohesive and the colour variations seen in the pan come through in the wearing. The shadows are pigmented yet remain easy to blend although some need more time and care. The shimmers look absolutely stunning, full of sparkle and they last a few hours before creasing too.
