e.l.f. Cosmetics Expert Liquid Eyeliner Review

Hi lovelies,

This is another one that I picked up before christmas and honestly would have made a fabulous stocking filler for any makeup lover.

The e.l.f. cosmetics expert liquid eyeliner is available to purchase from the company website (see here) as well as from Superdrug (here). It retails for £3 and you get 4.2ml of product. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £35 with e.l.f and on orders over £25 with Superdrug.

The packaging is giving basic but as long as it remains functional I really don’t mind. The liner bottle comes on card backing with sealed plastic over it. You know the ones. They’re usually hanging from a display arm. The liner itself comes in the standard tapered bottle with a screw cap containing the brush. All information can be found on the backing card or online.

According to the product description, this is a high pigment, easy glide eyeliner that helps you line and define your eyes. The smudge free formula is available in three shades creating bold, long lasting definition. The extra fine brush brings precise application without any tugging or skipping on the skin. This is cruelty free and vegan.

On the eye, this is actually pretty good. The formula has the perfect consistency for me. It’s quite a thin liquid that is easily applied but it doesn’t bleed into any fine lines or skin texture. It can look a little thin when you’re at the end of the brush load but other than that it delivers solid, bold pigment. If needed you can layer it up and it remains lightweight with no cracking. It’s also easy to remove if you make mistakes. The brush really does fit the extra fine description as it is tiny and allows for precise application. Thanks to the formula and brush, there’s no tugging on the skin or skipping over it during application.

So far so good right? Well here the issues start to occur. When worn alone, the liner really cannot claim to be smudge free. It can handle been touched lightly but you can’t apply any sort of pressure to it as it will smudge. When worn with eyeshadow, it is slightly better so maybe set it with some black eyeshadow to help it last a little longer. Aside from that, it lasts pretty well. If undisturbed, the colour remains solid for hours and the formula doesn’t crack or bleed over time.

Overall, I’m completely happy with the e.l.f cosmetics Expert liquid liner. For the price, I can’t really complain that it isn’t completely smudge free since it is fairly long lasting when you don’t rub it. However, it is super easy to apply with the brush and formula working together for a tug and skip free application that deliver solid, bold pigment.
