Hi lovelies,
So my bad, I meant to post last week but I actually had to delete that one as the product is no longer available to purchase anywhere. Oopsie… I do tend to find items at a much later date as I don’t follow the makeup trends at all so that’s not really a surprise
The SOSU Cosmetics cream contour stick is available to purchase from the company website (see here) as well as Superdrug (here) and Amazon (here). It retails for £14 with 5 shades available on this listing but I did find a second listing for a light one too. You qualify for free UK shipping with Amazon and on orders over £25 with Superdrug. Shipping to the UK from SOSU will cost you £5.

The packaging is very industry standard for a cream contour stick. There’s an outer box that contains all product information including the ingredients and the shade at the bottom. The stick itself comes in a pink tube with a smooth rolling mechanism to raise and lower the product. It’s comfortable enough to hold and a good size for sliding into a makeup bag.

According to the product description, this is a creamy contour stick that is enriched with Vitamin E. Now from here the description gets little bit hazy as parts seem to describe more of a highlighting concealer than an actual contour stick. For example you would not put 5 out of the 6 shades in the middle of your forehead and down the center of your nose. Nah ah. I bit of separation would be nice there since it’s 2 different product listings. The shade range is also very meh for me. Aside from the fact there’s technically only 5 shades, only one is an actual contour. Contour should be cool toned, it’s to create shadow so you want more grey in there. Most of these are warm toned making them more suitable for a bronzer, to add warmth to the high points. There’s only one dark shade too.

Sorry for that bit of a rant…I picked up the cool neutral shade as it seemed the best option for both colouring and tone. Honestly out on both counts. I swatched this next to my standard contour stick (ABH) and boy was it different. Despite being a cool shade, it was a lot warmer and a few shades darker. Now darker isn’t necessarily an issue as there is no shade attached to it but the warmth is an issue for me. You cannot call something cool for it to be warm in tone. That just does not compute. It also makes me wonder what the cool shade looks like.

The contour as a whole isn’t exactly a bad product but it’s not something I will be reaching for on the regular. My biggest issue with this is the colour and it’s such a shame as the formula is really nice. It’s a lot creamier than other contour sticks which makes it easier to apply and blend. In fact, it’s easy to apply too much actually as it doesn’t need any warming up before use. The contour stick works well with other cream and liquid products with minimal disturbance and once set with powder doesn’t move until you want it to. That includes adding powder products over it.

It sits nicely on the skin over the course of a day and doesn’t break down at all. Despite being creamy, the contour stick doesn’t feel greasy on the skin nor does it highlight skin texture. The creaminess makes it look glossy upon application but blending and setting reduces the shine to much more matte but still radiant glow (if that makes sense). It’s no longer glossy neither is it a true matte finish.

Overall, despite the formula being so, so good I probably will not be purchasing the SOSU Cosmetics contour stick again. I just can’t get over the warmth of the lightest, coolest shade in what is a very minimal range. It’s such a shame too. The formula is creamy, easy to blend and works well with other products. Honestly other than the colour and overall shade range this is a decent product.
