IT x Revolution Clown Artist Paint Set Review

Hi lovelies,

Nearly through with the Makeup Revolution Halloween collab posts at long last….nearly.

The IT x Revolution Beauty Clown artist palette is available to purchase from the company website (see here) as well as from Beauty Bay (here) and Amazon (here). It retails for £14.99 and is cruelty free and vegan. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £35 with Revolution and over £25 with Beauty Bay.

The packaging is once again perfectly designed for this collection. The outer box is kind of basic, black with a small image of Pennywise and a clear front to see the palette. All product information including the ingredients can be found on the back of both. The palette itself is shaped like a balloon and features a full image of the legendary being himself. There’s a magnet to keep the lid closed and decent sized mirror on the inside too. I love the additional touches on this like the satin highlights on the front and the text on the mirror cover. It also sits nicely when open despite not laying flat, the lid can hold itself up.

According to the product description, this is the ultimate transformational set for Halloween featuring 8 pans of pigment for creative looks. Bit much but ok. There’s 4 water activated paints and 4 cream paints as well as dual ended brush for application. I have to admit by the time I tested this one, I had forgotten it was water activated and had to double check on the website as it said nothing on the packaging. Slightly annoying but there we go. The pans are a good size as you can get bigger face brushes in them.

When doing the swatches, I found the paints to be a little awkward. The formula is nothing like other water activated face paints. More like cake liners than say Mehron paint. It took me a couple of tries to create the right consistency and even then it wasn’t great. The white was a little chalky but did manage to create an even swatch. The rest were ok. The 4 creams were hard to work with using a brush but with a finger they were much smoother and looked quite pigmented.

In all honesty, I really don’t think I think I like this palette and that pains me to say. The paints didn’t get any easier to work with on the face, in fact it got harder as you can only mix a small amount of paint each time. It made for a really patchy application particularly the green. I really think this is all down to the formula of the water activated paints. The red wasn’t too bad though. Once dry and set with powder, they are long lasting on the skin although there is still a small amount of transfer.

Onto the creams…..yeah they’re ok. A bit dry at first but become more workable with body heat and can be set with powder to make them immovable. Personally, I think they’re the best part of this palette but I’m not sure how much I’ll use the yellow and orange shades. Once set, both formulas can handle additional powders without lifting.

I think my biggest issue with this palette is the colour palette. It fit’s with the theme of IT sure but it doesn’t work with the 2 formulas. How you going to give a person three primary colours that cannot be mixed together due to formula? It’s kind of infuriating. It just doesn’t feel cohesive and that it can be used alone.

Overall, I’m actually really gutted with the IT x Revolution Clown paint palette. I’m just not into it at all. I’m sorry. The formula for the water activated paints just doesn’t do anything for me; it’s awkward, patchy and I don’t like the shades. The creams are pretty good, pigmented and creamy when warmed but again the colours don’t inspire me.
