Hails and Fails of 2024

Hi lovelies,

Well it’s time for the traditional highs and lows of the year but first let’s get a little sappy. We want to thank you for sticking with us for yet another year. I know it’s been a but crazy and I’ve no doubt this will continue as some new things are coming in 2025 but we’ll keep that until later. We hope you have a fabulous new year.

As always, the hails and fails list is just a sum up of our personal year in makeup. Not all items were released in 2024, some are old favourites but we’ve tried and reviewed them all over the last year. This is just our personal opinion but feel free to add your own in the comments.

Hails

The first of our hails is one of three products from a small UK business. Kaima Cosmetics makes things that sparkle and they have many fabulous products. The first on the list is their Multichrome Special Effects Eyeshadow which is simply gorgeous. I want more than the one shade I have and although they are expensive they are worth every penny. Soft, highly pigmented, long lasting and comfortable while offering a three way colour change.

The next product on the hails list is also from Kaima Cosmetics but it’s the holographic glitter liquid eyeshadow. Not something I thought I’d be saying but again another gorgeous product that literally looks like liquid metal. It delivers high pigment and shine in a single swipe and once it dries down doesn’t move, smudge or settle into creases. It also has a gorgeous colour shift which makes everything better.

The final products from Kaima Cosmetics to make the hail list are the chameleon flakes. These are frigging stunning and so versatile as well. These are safe to use on the eyes, lips, skin and nails, all you need is a little skin adhesive. Despite their appearance, the flakes are so soft and buttery to apply but they will go everywhere. They are mostly lightweight to wear and again gives a multichrome effect depending on light.

The fourth product to make the list is from another small UK business. The Glisten Cosmetic Spectra Bases were a key feature for our halloween. Yes all of them. So despite the shade range, these can be mixed to create further shades so you don’t really need them all. However, each are pigmented and leave you with a smooth, even base like any other foundation. When set with powder, it only moves with pressure but it doesn’t settle into any creases. It’s lightweight on the skin too.

The first palette on the list is the Beauty Bay Midnight 42 colour palette. Blue and purple shadows are some of the hardest to create and use but the formula of this palette makes the shadows so easy to use. There can be some patchiness if layered in the wrong order but when done right, it’s nonexistent no matter how much you layer. They are pigmented and yet easy to blend.

The penultimate hail product is a surprising one. It’s the Makeup Revolution Truly Sinful PH Blush Balm. It’s a black balm that turns pink when applies to the skin. More science than makeup I guess but it actually works. It’s fairly pigmented so be wary when applying but it leaves you with soft, smooth finish to the skin.

The final products on the list will come as no surprise, it’s Made by Mitchell. Yes it’s the Curve Case….how could it not be? We also extend these sentiments to the blursh balms with this same formula. It’s awesome and fully inclusive with the recent additions. They are easy to blend leaving you with a soft, natural but radiant finish to the skin.

Fails

Y’all know I frigging hate this part but, unfortunately, with the hails comes the fails. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean the following products are awful. They just weren’t suited to us and that’s fine.

The first one to fail should really come as no surprise considering the review. This is the first time P.Louise has featured in the fails list and we’ve tried a lot of their products. But the You Drive Me Balmy Duo did absolutely nothing for me. Now full disclosure that may have been the apple scent but I think it was only part of the problem. The pen part made my lips tingle really uncomfortably and the thick balm had an awful taste. It may be the scent but I don’t want to spend £22 to test that theory.

The second item on the fail list is something I am actually heartbroken about. I truly wanted to love this product but I really can’t. The Nimya by NikkieTutorials Where it all starts cream. Not only did it make me look like an extra in twilight from all the sparkles in it, it felt thick and heavy on my skin. It didn’t help my base makeup either.

The penultimate product is the Revolution x IT Clown Paint Palette. Yeah no. Hated it. Every part of it. The cream paints were greasy and the water activated paints were dry. On top of that, the shade range was kinda hideous. There’s not really much else to say.

The final item of this years roundup is another one from Makeup Revolution. It’s the Y2K flip phone palette and to be honest, the concept was cute just poorly executed. The shade range worked for the era but I wanted more pigment out of them. They were just very wishy washy and were barely visible on the skin.

Anywhoo, that’s sort of it. Feel free to leave your opinions in the comments below including your own personal highs and lows of the year. Once again, thank you for sticking with us for yet another year and we’d love to see you again next year. Happy New Year Guys.

Rach xx
