Maybelline Superstay 24 hour Foundation

Hi lovelies,

Hope everyone’s well. I’ve been hearing wonderful things about this foundation so I thought I’d try it for myself. The Maybelline Superstay 24hr foundation can be purchased at Superdrug or Boots in the UK and retails for £9.99.

I do think the shade range is a bit crappy as they only have 12 shades. For once there is more than one shade for darker skin which is great from a drugstore brand but there isn’t a shade for very dark or very pale skin. It was very difficult picking the right shade online using the information provided. There are no swatches on skin which doesn’t allow you to see the undertones of the foundation.

I ended up choosing my shade based on beauty vloggers on YouTube and looking at their skin tones and the shades they used. One in particular really does show the undertone differences between the ivory and beige foundations and this really helped me decide (Lucy Purtface Review). I went with the 05 Light Beige shade and its a pretty good match.

I really love the packaging especially for the price. The bottle is glass with a secure lid and a pump. The glass feels sturdy as does the plastic pump and lid. It’s a nice size bottle too and won’t take up much space in a bag if you’re travelling. You get 30mls of foundation in the bottle and it should last a while as its full coverage.

I swatched this on the back of my hand and it does oxidise a lot. This isn’t surprising considering the reviews I’ve seen on YouTube so I would advise buying a shade you may think is a little bit pale.

I only needed one pump to cover my entire face and I have to admit it did a pretty good job covering my under eye bags. Although it didn’t erase them entirely it did lighten them up noticeably. For full coverage foundation I think this feels incredibly light on the skin.

I applied the Superstay foundation using a beauty blender and a kabuki brush when testing to see how it went on. It blended out nicely with both but I do prefer using the beauty blender for full coverage foundation.

I also tried out different powders for setting this foundation. My pressed powder is a drugstore brand and did leave a slight chalky finish to my skin. However this is a recurring problem so I’m certain its the powder. I also used my loose rice powder from Primark (see previous review) and it left a lovely matte finish to my skin.

After setting, the foundation held my bronzer, highlight and blush well allowing me to blend them out easily. I do use powders though and haven’t tried cream contours and blushes or liquid highlighter. The foundation did hold up well with glitter fix though with minimal lifting when applying the glue and glitter.

After several hours of wear, I didn’t notice the foundation shifting or creasing but towards the end of the day there was some wear. It was mainly the foundation moving on my nose and creasing around the nose and mouth. However this only occurred after about 12 hours of wear with no touching up which is impressive for my oily face.

I’ve been trying this out everyday for like 10+ hours to see how my skin reacted and it’s good. Well no worse than usual anyway so no major breakouts or reactions of any type. I don’t have really sensitive skin so please be aware it may not be the same for everyone.

Overall I am so happy with this foundation. I didn’t think drugstore foundations could be this awesome especially for the price. This foundation should last ages as you really don’t need to use much. It covers everything and blends well without looking or feeling thick and greasy.

As always I’ve included some images below of the product in use. Thanks for reading. Let me know what you think and I hope you join me for more.

Rach xx

  1. Gorgeous makeup and you my doll, is drop dead beautiful!

The best way to try swatch foundation to match your skin tone is to do it on your throat, under your ear. I hope you understand what I meant.

I never find a foundation in right shade as my skin tone but you can always mix two or so to get your skin tone 😊😊

    Thank you for sharing 💖
