Beauty Bay Age of Opulence Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

So I actually picked this up during the Black Friday sales but we’ve had so much to try that it’s taken a while play with.

This is available exclusively from the Beauty Bay website (see here) and retails for £15. You get free UK delivery on orders over £20 otherwise shipping will cost £2.50. Even during the sales, it took less than a week for my order to arrive.

The packaging is gorgeous with a slightly different design than usual. The outer box is the most beautiful teal with a gemstone patterned logo on the front. Decals and text are done in metallic for an extra flair. All product information including the ingredients can be found on the back of the box. The palette has a collage style design to give an over the top feel and is a good size and weight to use. The lid has a magnetic closure and a decent sized mirror inside.

This is a 20 pan palette containing 12 mattes and 8 shimmer shades inspired by the roaring 20s. We have purple, brown, teal and blue shades that compliment each other to give a really versatile colour story. The pans are a fair size with plenty of room for your eye brushes.

When doing the swatches, all the shades (apart from Noir) were really soft to the touch but they weren’t the smoothest to swipe. All the mattes required 2 layers to get an even swatch. The shimmers though are amazing, I fell in love immediately. They’re really soft and smooth, barely needed to touch them and swiped so evenly with one layer.

On the eye, most of the matte shadows were easy to apply, build and blend without any issues. However the shades Velvet and Curfew did apply patchy and were difficult to build up to an even, intense pigment. The shimmers are so beautiful. They are best applied with your finger to get the most pigment and sparkle from them. They apply smoothly and blend together fairly easily.

Unfortunately, there is some inconsistency with the shimmers and creasing. Some last longer than others without creasing e.g. Revival took a few hours longer than Decadent to crease. There was some kickback in the pan for all of the shades but only the shimmers had fallout under the eye. There is some staining with the purple based shades and also the dark blue shimmer too. Other than that I’ve had no issues with this palette although I don’t have sensitive skin. If you’re experiencing any problems please remove and seek medical advice.

Overall, I’m really happy with the Age of Opulence palette from Beauty Bay. The packaging is a little more extra than usual but then they are screaming opulence. Absolutely love the shade range that’s inspired by the roaring 20s. For the most part the shadows are soft, pigmented, buildable and easy to blend. A few can be patchy but it’s easy to work around. The shimmers are gorgeous, soft and easy to apply although they can crease pretty quickly.
