Barry M Cosmetics Metallic Matte Me Up Lip Kit Review

Hi lovelies,

Another item from a Barry M value goodie bag but this time it’s from the Glitterfest bag.

So I can’t find these items, either the kit or individually on the Barry M website other than with the goodie bag that retails for £20 (see here). However, they are available on Amazon (here) as well as LookFantastic (here). There are 5 shades available and kits start at a retail price of £13.99 with some shade being more expensive then others. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £25 with Barry M and it will usually be delivered in a few days.

The packaging is very on brand for Barry M; it is sleek and minimalistic while representing the shade inside. The kit comes in an outer box that contains all product information including the ingredients. The kit shade name in written on the top of the box and corresponds with the colouring of the front of the box. The two items inside have industry standard packaging. The pencil has a cap to protect the tip but it is a standard pencil that requires sharpening. The lip paint comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator.

The lip kits feature shimmering, bold and metallic shades and have a non-drying, long wearing formula. Each kit contains a metallic lip pencil and a metallic liquid lip paint. Both are the same shade which in this case is 24 carat-a copper/bronze.

So despite having the same shade name, the lip pencil is quite a lot lighter than the lipstick. It applies smoothly but can barely be seen when on the lips. Not what you want from a lip liner really but it can be used elsewhere. The lip paint is stunning. It’s smooth and is easy to apply evenly while being highly pigmented and full of shimmer. It’s really comfortable to wear as it’s lightweight and doesn’t dry down too much. It doesn’t transfer either making it last for several hours without retouching.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the Matte Me Up Metallic Lip Kit from Barry M. Not sure I’ll wear it that often as it is bright and bold but it’s perfect for festivals. The packaging although nothing amazing is perfectly adequate and the outer box is well designed to show the shade. I’m not a huge fan of the lip pencil as it’s too light for the lip paint and can barely be seen when applied. The paint has good pigment, applies easily, is lightweight and lasts for hours. Can’t ask for much more from a lipstick.
