The Simpsons x Makeup Revolution Summer of Love Homer and Marge Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

I’ve been tempted more than once by The Simpsons x Makeup Revolution collaboration and this one was the one that sealed the decision.

This is available to purchase from the Revolution Beauty website (see here) as well as from Beauty Bay and Boots. It retails for £18 and is cruelty free and vegan. You qualify for free UK delivery on orders over £30 with Revolution; on orders over £25 with Boots and on orders over £35 with Beauty Bay. Changed that quickly enough didn’t they (see a previous post for that rant).

The packaging is soooo perfect for a 70s themed palette-bright colours and a slightly trippy design. I love the image of a young Homer and Marge on the front as it was their summer of love after all. Both the outer box and palette have the same design and contain all product details including the ingredients can be found on the back. The lid has a magnetic closure and a heart shaped mirror on the inside. There’s also a protective cover over the shadows.

This is a 24 pan palette containing 12 mattes and 12 various shimmer finishes. The shade range screams the 70s with a collection of bright, colourful shades and a couple of neutrals for day wear. For the most part, the shades are quite cohesive for creating gradient looks though there are one or two that don’t work with the whole. The pan sizes are standard size for a palette like this and have the shade names written underneath. I also love the details embossed into the pans.

When doing the swatches, the shadows felt soft and silky to touch. All of the mattes produced a smooth and even swipe but some of the less vibrant shades required 2 layers to really get the colours to pop. The shimmers felt so smooth and swiped evenly with good pigment.

On the eye, the shadows perform pretty well. The mattes are fairly pigmented yet are still really easy to blend. You do lose some pigment during blending but the shades can be layered up to build the colour again without any patchiness. The shimmers look so pretty on the eye. They are easy to apply with both a brush or finger and are fairly easy to control too. The shimmers are easy to blend with each other and the mattes.

There was some kickback in the pan for most of the matte shades but very little with the shimmers. There’s fallout under the eye for most of the darker shades in the palette. The shimmers lasted a couple of hours on the eyes before they started to crease. Amazingly, there’s been no staining with this palette.

Overall, I am so happy with the Summer of Love Homer and Marge palette from The Simpsons x Makeup Revolution collaboration. I absolutely love the packaging. It’s perfect for a 70s Simpsons palette and feels well made and sturdy. The shade range is gorgeous with a mix of vibrant and neutral colours across matte and shimmer finishes. The shadows are fairly pigmented, easy to blend and don’t stain the skin. The shimmers have good reflects and last a few hours before creasing.
