Beetlejuice X Makeup Revolution Strange and Unusual Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

It’s that time of the year again. Makeup Revolution’s Annual Halloween collaboration. As it’s one of my favourite movies, you know I had to grab the majority of the Beetlejuice collection. This palette is cruelty free and vegan.

The Strange and Unusual palette can be purchased from the company website (here) as well as from Superdrug. It retails for £8 with shipping costs starting at £1.50. You do qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £30 with Makeup Revolution and on orders over £25 from Superdrug. Dispatch can take a couple of days unless you pay for expedited shipping and your order will be with two or 3 days after dispatch.

The packaging has a Victorian, gothic feel to it with the black lace pattern over the red background. It fits the character of Lydia Deetz perfectly and that includes the name too. Both the outer box and the palette feature the same design and contain all product information on the back. The palette itself is well made and is a good size and weight for working makeup artists. The lid is held securely closed with a magnet and also has a mirror on the inside. Although it’s not very useful, I love the bug shape of the mirror; it fits the theme perfectly.

This is a nine pan palette containing 4 mattes and 5 shimmer shades. Inspired by Lydia, the palette features a Berry shade range with hints of gold and I love it. The mattes offer some versatility for looks especially with the black and the shimmers add to that. The pans are a good size and have additional details embossed into them. The shade names are under the pans and are absolutely perfect.

When doing the swatches, all the shadows felt really soft but the mattes did need a couple of layers to create a strong swatch. The shimmers swiped smoothly with good pigment and shine. Some of the shades are quite subtle and others look intense. I particularly love the shade Prince Valium which has a pink to gold sheen.

On the eye, the shadows work well but they’re not the most pigmented even with a primer. However, they can be layered up without any patchiness to build the intensity. The matte shades really work well together and are quite easy to blend. The shimmers were so smooth and easy to apply.

The shimmers lasted at least 4 hours before they started creasing (I removed them after 4 hours and they were still perfectly intact). There was some kickback in the pan for the majority of the shades and fallout under the eye for the black and shimmers. The shadows are easy to remove and didn’t leave my skin stained.

Overall, I am really happy with the Strange and Unusual palette from the Beetlejuice and Makeup Revolution collaboration. I love the packaging, its so perfect for a Lydia inspired palette. As is the shade range which offers a fair amount of versatility. The shadows aren’t the most pigmented but they are buildable and easy to blend. The shimmers look gorgeous and last for hours without creasing.
