Hi lovelies,
So as you know, we’ve recently started taking bookings and have been looking to build our kit. We’ve made a decision to be accessible for all budgets so a range of drugstore products are going to be needed. Here’s one that comes highly recommended by many pro and celebrity makeup artists.

The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Liquid Foundation is available to purchase at Boots (here), Superdrug (here) and Look Fantastic (here). It retails for £7.99 and you get 30ml of product. It’s actually cheaper to shop at Boots for this as it’s currently only £5.99. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £25 from all three companies with standard shipping starting at £3.95. You can also pick these up in stores in most Boots and Superdrug outlets too.

The packaging is pretty basic even for a drugstore brand but it’s adequate. The foundation comes in a thin, plastic tube that has a screw cap and is security sealed with a plastic wrap. The tube is pretty flexible which is handy as there’s only a nozzle to squeeze out the product, no pump. However the tube itself feels well made and doesn’t leak. You can find all product information including the ingredients on the tube. But yeah, nothing amazing but completely adequate for the job.

According to the product description, the Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation is all about skin tone and texture. It has a mattifying, oil free formula that is ideal for normal to oily skin. It also contains micro powders that blur pores and reduce shine throughout the day. It is a lightweight, medium coverage foundation that leaves you with a fairly natural finish that doesn’t look cakey or flat.
So for once I actually have massive praise for Maybelline as there are a whopping 40 shades available (dum dum dahhhhh). And not just 40 shades of white either. There’s an amazing range for dark skin tones and in fact offer the darkest shade I could find for a standard drugstore brand; you’ll see below. There’s also a range of undertones available for each shade. I started out with 3 shades: 104 (soft ivory), 128 (warm nude) and 380 (rich espresso). I initially picked up 128 for myself but it’s a couple of shades too dark for me. Luckily the 104 is a perfect match but it gives you some idea of the shade range as I’m not that pale and this is on that end of the spectrum.

I’m actually blown away by this foundation especially when you consider the price. When swatching on the back of the hand, it did oxidise slightly but it didn’t change the colour dramatically. It doesn’t smell great but smells like a foundation with no added fragrance. The foundation has quite a thin consistency, it’s very runny, but that makes it easy to apply. It gives medium coverage that doesn’t look thick or cakey in any way on the skin. It doesn’t highlight any skin texture or dry patches either. Despite being only a medium coverage foundation, it covers most imperfections well without the skin becoming a mask or one dimensional. Once set with powder, it leaves you with a matte finish that doesn’t transfer or settle into the fine lines of the face. With too much powder it can look too matte but can be brought back to life with some setting spray.

Now you don’t necessarily have to set this foundation with powder. I’d advise setting the undereye area as well as the T-Zone if you have oily skin but you don’t have to do the rest of the face. When left unset, you are left with a natural looking, radiant complexion that doesn’t look greasy. It can transfer slightly when left unset but doesn’t shift once other products are applied. The foundation works well underneath as well as over other products. Creams and liquids blend into it seamlessly without shifting and powders sit on it well without turning patchy.

Overall, I am over the moon with the Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation from Maybelline. Although the packaging isn’t anything spectacular, the shade range is pretty good. There’s a full shade range with various undertones available for each. The foundation looks amazing on the skin. The thin consistency allows for a natural but medium coverage foundation that mattifies without looking thick or cakey. It blends into the skin nicely with the coverage offering some dimension to the face. The foundation works well with other products and brands and is fast becoming my go to foundation for clients.
