BH Cosmetics Trendy in Tokyo Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

Another one from my Black Friday haul for you today. Bet ya I’m still writing about these hauls in November.

You can pick up the Trendy in Tokyo palette from the company website (see here) as well as Beauty Bay (see here). It is cruelty free and vegan and retails for £13.50/$17. Delivery from BB was pretty quick considering I ordered during Black Friday. I’m not sure what delivery is like from BH Cosmetics so if you have any experiences let us know in the comments.

The packaging is really cute with it’s window and motif design. It gives you a sneak peek of the shades in the palette without ruining the design aesthetic. This window design is only on the outer sleeve with the palette blocking this out and showing more of the motifs. All product information including the ingredients list can be found on the outer sleeve. The palette is a good size and weight to hold when working and the magnetic closure is quite strong. There is a decent sized mirror on the inside of the lid and a protective sheet sits over the pans.

This is a 16 pan palette with 10 matte and 6 shimmer shades inspired by the capital city of Japan; Tokyo. It’s pretty much a rainbow palette, not a single neutral shade in sight. I love the layout of the colour story with the warm shades on one side and the cool shades on the other. It’s so aesthetically pleasing to me.

When doing the swatches, the shadows felt buttery and soft to the touch. They swiped smoothly and are fairly vibrant in pigment. Some of the mattes did need two layers to get that bright, even swatch. The only shade that was a bit of a let down was Tempura. The shimmers swatched so well, smooth and even with a gorgeous shine.

On the eye, the shadows perform quite well. Although pigmented and bright upon application, you do lose some of that during blending. Thankfully the shades build up evenly to get that intense colour. Some shades need more blending than others but they blend together well and fairly easily. The shimmers look so pretty. Some are more vibrant and eye catching than others but all are stunning.

There is a small amount of kickpan in the pans with some fallout under the eyes. I’ve had a lot worse so it’s managable. I haven’t experienced any staining around the eyes either. The shadows last well on the eyes, only creasing after many hours of wear.

Overall, I am so happy with this purchase from BH Cosmetics. Small enough to travel with, light enough to hold, this palette is super cute, well made and sturdy. The colour story is a bright rainbow and I love the shade range and the layout. The shadows can be built up to a vibrant pigment, while working well together and being reasonably easy to blend.
