Makeup Obsession Ocean Blues Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

Another sub-brand from the Makeup Revolution family and another Black Friday buy. Y’all you know I can’t resist a blue palette.

You can purchase this from the Revolution Beauty website (see here) for £5 though I can’t seem to find this one elsewhere. You get free UK delivery on orders over £30 otherwise it’ll be £2.99 as standard.

The packaging is simple, minimalistic and cute. The unit carton and palette cover have the same design of pale blue with blue and silver reflective writing. All product information, including the ingredients can found on the back of both. The palette is made of card and feels quite sturdy despite being so light. The lid has a magnetic closure and there’s a mirror in the lid too. This palette is tiny. Like you can hold it on your palm making it perfect to drop into your bag. The pans are so little you may need to be careful with your brushes.

The Makeup Obsession Ocean Vibes palette is a 9 pan palette with a blue and teal colour story. I didn’t realise when buying that this was a full shimmer palette with no mattes at all. For me, you need at least one matte shade just to bring everything together. At least, there are various finishes to the shadows; a couple of metallic, some with glitter reflects and some foils. The shade deep blue is the only pressed pigment in this palette.

When doing the swatches, the shadows felt soft and buttery to the touch. As is typical of most Revolution brands, the shadows weren’t overly pigmented when swiped. Only the shade Ocean needed one layer to get that great pigment in the image, the rest needed a couple. However the shine and glitter of the shadows are really pretty and bright. My arm was full of sparkles after.

On the eye, the shadows needed to be built up to achieve good pigment. I don’t have an issue with this as they are easy to build and blend with no patchiness. The colours work well together and offer some varieties for your looks. The shade range does at least have a gradient for blending and they look pretty good on the crease too. A couple of the lighter shades can also be used as highlighter.

There is some kickback in the pan and fallout under the eye for all of the shades. The fallout is mostly the shimmer particles with little pigment so it’s easy to brush away. I haven’t had any issues when using this; no irritation, no staining, no stray particles when removing etc.

Overall, I am really happy with this purchase from Makeup Obsession. For the price, you can’t go wrong especially if you need to touch up on the go. It’s the perfect size to slide into your bag. The packaging is well made and sturdy. Although the shadows aren’t the most pigmented they are buildable to achieve good pigment. They are easy to blend and work well together.
