Makeup Obsession Smokin’ Shadow Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

I’ve got another of my Black Friday buys for you….I’m nearly at the end of the haul *gasp.

I picked this up from the Revolution Beauty website (see here) as well as from the Pretty Little Thing site (see here). This retails for £5 but is currently on sale with PLT for £3.50. You get free UK shipping on orders over £30 with Revolution Beauty but standard shipping is £2.99. Standard shipping from PLT is £3.99. I grabbed mine from Revolution Beauty and it was delivered in a few days.

The packaging has the minimalistic design typical of Revolution Beauty brands. The colours of the packaging are the perfect representation for the colour story inside. A black background with silver text is pretty eye-catching. The palette name is on the front and product information including the ingredients list is on the back. The palette is small enough to slide into your makeup bag and even has a tiny mirror in the lid.

This one is a newer addition to the mini palettes collection from Makeup Obsession. It’s another tiny, 9 pan palette this time with a colour story of black and grey. As with the others this is cruelty free and vegan and contains 1 matte and 8 shimmers of various finishes.

When doing the swatches, all but one of the shadows felt soft and buttery. The shade Sizzle felt hard in the pan and took some effort to get the pigment onto my finger. It swatched well with one layer once I’d managed it. All of the shadows were pigmented underneath the shine and the matte black was surprisingly dark. The shimmers range from subtle to full on shine and sparkle.

One the eye, the shadows perform very well. The black is pigmented, buildable and easy to blend. There can be a slight patchiness to it when using a tiny brush but it is easily rectified with a fluffy blending brush. Despite the shimmer to the other shades, they do blend to make a beautiful gradient as the shimmer particles are minimal in some shades. I feel in love with shades Sizzle, Midnight and Velvet because of the shimmer.

Unfortunately the shadows do crease on the eye after a couple of hours wear but you can touch them up easily. I’ve not had any other issues when using this palette. There’s been no staining or irritation during or after use. All the shadows were easy to remove although the glitter particles like to stick around.

Overall, I am pretty happy with the Makeup Obsession Smokin’ eyeshadow palette. It’s a cute size for travelling and has a decent shade range. You’re not necessarily going to have huge versatility in your looks but there’s some for a 9 pan palette. The shadows are pigmented and buildable with a good range of finishes for the shimmers as they make up the majority of the palette.
