MUA Makeup Academy Shimmer Highlight Powder Review

Hi lovelies,

Seems like we’re on a roll with makeup reviews at the minute. For some reason I haven’t tried many products from MUA Makeup Academy and I’m not sure why. This product is cruelty free and vegan.

You can purchase the MUA Makeup Academy Shimmer Highlight is available to buy from the company website (see here) as well as Beauty Bay (here) and Superdrug (here). It retails for £3 for 8g of product. You get free UK delivery on orders over £15 with Superdrug, £25 with Beauty Bay and £30 with MUA Makeup Academy. Shipping from Beauty Bay is pretty quick with dispatch happening within a few days of ordering. Superdrug can take up to a week to dispatch and I’m not sure about MUA.

The packaging is really cheaply made and quite plain. I’m not complaining about it as my highlighter arrived whole and unbroken so it’s clearly good enough. The clasp is strong so it won’t be popping open on its own. All product information including the ingredients list can be found on the back of the case. I absolutely love the swirled design on the highlighter.

There are 6 shades available and I grabbed Pearlescent Sheen. From the images online, this looks to be a light shade with a blue reflect giving you a cool toned highlighter. This is described as a ultra soft, finely milled powder perfect for adding a radiant finishing touch to your complexion. A pressed powder that can be used lightly for a subtle glow or layered up for a more intense shine.

This is quite a hard pressed powder but it is still soft and silky to the touch. I didn’t feel like I’d picked up much on my finger before swatching but it swiped well with plenty of shine. It blends onto the skin so beautifully without disturbing any complexion products beneath. When lightly applied you end up with a soft, icy glow but when layered up the blue hue comes through with ridiculous high shine. You’ll see it from space when the light hits it but outside of the light there’s no cast on your skin with this formula. To be honest I don’t see much difference between this one and my Ofra x NikkieTutorials highlighter in terms of final result.

MUA (top) vs Ofra (bottom)

Overall, I am so happy with the MUA Makeup Academy Shimmer Highlight Powder in the shade Pearlescent Sheen. At £3, it’s an absolute bargain and a great addition to any makeup kit. The packaging isn’t amazing but the compact stays closed and protects the powder from shattering. Although it’s pressed quite hard, its still soft and easy to blend. You don’t need to use much to achieve a soft glow and can be layered up for great shine. The final finish is very similar to my Ofra Space Baby but for a fraction of the cost.
