Hi lovelies,
I decided to make use of some of my Beauty Bay perks and grabbed this one as part of the huge Halloween haul I picked up. This palette is cruelty free and vegan.

The Beauty Bay Identity 42 palette is available exclusively from, you guessed it, Beauty Bay (see here). It retails for £23 or free if you have enough perk points. There is currently a 40% off sale so be sure to grab it before it disappears at £13. You get free UK delivery on orders over £25 with Beauty Bay and it will be with you in a couple of days usually.

The packaging is pretty standard for Beauty Bay palettes. Everything comes in a sealed pouch which I find unnecessary as it’s so awkward to remove the box. This palette comes in an holographic outer box that has an bubble wrap envelope inside to protect it during shipping. The palette has the classic matte black finish with the names written in holographic text. All product information including the ingredients list can be found on the back of both so you don’t need to keep the box. The palette itself is quite big and although, not overly heavy, it’s not the most comfortable to hold up for working makeup artists. There is a magnetic closure to keep the lid closed and a good sized mirror on the inside.

This is a 42 pan palette. The layout and whole design of the palette makes it absolutely perfect for beginners who want to start in makeup. It gives you a basic knowledge of where to place your tones of shadow to create depth to the eyes. There is a great ratio of shades with 24 mattes, 1 with shimmer reflects and 17 shimmer and metallic shades. There’s even some duochromes in there. The shade range is great offering a wide variety of looks with the perfect transition shades.

When doing the swatches, the shadows felt really soft and smooth. They swatched well with good pigment and movement although a couple of the lightest transition shades did need a second layer to really show up. The shimmers felt buttery to the touch and swiped so well. No second layer needed for any of them. You can see the difference in finishes between the shimmers and metallics.

On the eye, the shadows are amazing. They are quite pigmented yet remain so easy to blend. I’ve found to be a key feature with Beauty Bay shadows-they blend like a dream for something so pigmented. Naturally you do lose some pigment during blending but they can be layered up without any patchiness to build the pigment back up. The shades are perfect for creating a seamless gradient of colour. The shimmers and metallics are absolutely stunning and can really change up a look. They are highly pigmented and full of reflects to catch the light. They also blend together easily without becoming patchy.
Unfortunately, shimmers on the lid started creasing within a few hours but maintained their pigment all night. Annoying but a pretty easy fix. I have had some staining around the eyes with the purple and pink based shades but nothing too bad and it disappeared after a day. There is some kickback in the pan fr the majority of shades although only the shimmers and darker mattes produce fallout under the eye. Other than that I’ve not had any issues when using this palette though I don’t have sensitive skin. If you have have any issues please stop using and seek medical advice immediately

Overall, I am so happy with this purchase from Beauty Bay and would highly recommend it to any person just starting with makeup. It’s not too expensive to practice with and the layout of the pans will help you understand the theory behind great eyeshadow looks. The packaging design is the standard for Beauty Bay palettes; minimalistic but eyecatching with plenty of padding to protect the palette during transit. The shadows are easy to apply, pigmented and blendable. The shimmers and metallics are gorgeous and make any look pop. The shade range is great for creating a variety of blends too.
