Soda Makeup #makeitslay 003 Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

I was scrolling through a Beauty Bay sale and stumbled upon this stunner. Since I’m unfamiliar with this brand I had to try it.

The #makeitslay 003 palette is available to purchase from the Soda website (see here) as well as from Beauty Bay (here). There are 3 palettes to the #makeitslay and each retails for £14. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £22 with Soda and on orders over £25 with Beauty Bay. Having never ordered direct from Soda, I’m not sure of their delivery times but Beauty Bay will deliver in a day or two.

The packaging is really cute but very simple. There’s no outer box, just a sealed plastic wrapper around the palette. The three palettes are coloured differently but have the same design. Block pastels colours with cute decals on the front. The text is coloured to match the contrasting pastel shade on the inside of the palette. It has a fairly strong magnet for keeping the lid secure and there is a small mirror on the inside. It’s not too big and heavy for holding and the pans a good size.

This is a 16 pan palette containing 5 matte shadows and 11 shimmers. The shade range is really stunning but I really wish there were a couple more matte shades for added versatility. At least the mattes chosen provide a complimentary base for the majority of shimmers-not sure how the 2 green ones fit in but they look amazing.

When doing the swatches, all of the shadows felt soft and silky. Some of the mattes did look a little patchy and uneven after the first layer but most evened up with a second one. The shimmers swatched smoothly without any patchiness even when only a single layer used.

On the eye, the shadows work well. The mattes are quite pigmented but are still really easy to blend. You do lose some pigment during blending though they can be layered back up without any patchiness. The shades work well together to create some cute blends. The shimmers are gorgeous; quite pigmented and full of sparkle. The shade range goes from subtle to eye catching shimmers which I love.

I’ve had no issues when using this palette…none, absolutely zero. I don’t think that’s ever happened before. There’s barely any kickback in the pans and no fallout under the eye for ANY of the shades. The shimmers hadn’t creased after 8 hours of wear which is a minor miracle on my lids and hadn’t smudged or lost any of their shine either.

Overall, I’m really happy with the #makeitslay 003 palette from Soda and I’m actually looking at getting one of the other palettes from this collection. The packaging is cute, well made and usable with good sized pans. The shade range is a little odd but it did catch my eye though I do wish that there were more matte shadows. The shadows although not the most pigmented can be built up without patchiness and are easy to blend. The shimmers look stunning and last for hours without creasing.
