Soda Makeup Create Yo Scelf #makeitslay 002 Palette Review

Hi lovelies,

I did say I was going to pick out one of the other #makeitslay palettes from Soda and here it is. This is the 002 version and it is cruelty free, sulphate free and alcohol free.

The Soda Makeup #makeitslay 002 palette is available from the company website (see here) as well as from Beauty Bay (here) and it retails for £14. You qualify for free UK shipping on orders over €12.99 with Soda and on orders over £25 from Beauty Bay. As they are in the middle of a huge summer sale, it may take a few extra day to get you hauls shipped. Usually it’s delivered within a few days.

The packaging follows the same theme as the 003 palette (read that review here). Contrasting pastel colouring with cute decals and easy to read lettering. There’s no outer box but the palette does come sealed in plastic. The lid has a magnetic closure and a mirror on the inside. The palette is a decent size and not too heavy for holding.

This is a 16 pan palette containing 10 matte shadows and 6 shimmers of berry inspired tones. The shade range has a gorgeous mix of deep and soft colours that work well together to produce a variety of looks. I love the mix of finishes and the shades used for the shimmers to really add depth to your makeup.

When doing the swatches, the majority of mattes felt soft and swiped smoothly. The exceptions being “hot cocoa”, “wanna? be!” and “euphoria”. They all felt a bit hard and needed a few layers to get an even swatch. The shimmers are so soft and swiped easily to create a smooth, even swatch.

On the eye, the shadows perform well. Although they’re not the most pigmented, the shades can be layered to build that colour without any patchiness. They are easy to blend but definitely best applied in soft layers. The shimmers are highly pigmented and full of reflects. They are easy to apply with either a brush or your finger and are easy to blend into other shades.

I’m really impressed with the shimmers; they lasted for hours without creasing. There was some kickback in the pan for some of the darker shades and a tiny amount of fallout under the eye with the shimmers. That’s all. None of the shades stained my skin either which is a surprise for those deep reds.

Overall, I’m really happy with the #makeitslay 002 palette from Soda. For the price you are getting decent quality shadows in well made, secure packaging. They’re not the most pigmented, true, but they can be build up to create rich, vibrant eye looks and they last for hours without creasing. Some expensive palettes can’t do that. They are also easy to blend with no staining and very little fallout.
